ITS Security Tips

The prevalence of phishing scams is at an all-time high. You are the key to preventing cyber criminals from accessing FHN’s sensitive electronic information.

It is important to question the legitimacy of every email you receive. Below is a list of questions that may help you realize that you are being phished.

1. Is the sender asking me to click on a link or open an attachment to avoid a negative consequence, or to gain something of value?
2. Is the email out of the ordinary, or does it have bad grammar or spelling errors?
3. Is the sender asking me to click a link or open up an attachment that seems odd or illogical?
4. Do I have an uncomfortable gut feeling about the sender’s request to open an attachment or click a link?
5. Unfamiliar greeting
6. Subject line doesn’t make sense
7. Beware of slight variations or misspellings in the domain name.

If you notice anything about the email that alarms you, do not click links, open attachments, or reply. Forward the suspicious email to [email protected] or the report suspicious email using the “Report Suspicious Email” button in Outlook.

If you clicked a phishing link at work or may have given your FHN password to a criminal, call the ITS Helpdesk at ext. 6725 right away!

Your vigilance is crucial in ensuring the security of your account.

North American Indigenous people celebrate the July – August Sun Dance Ritual in June. For many tribes of the Plains Indians, the Sun Dance was a major communal religious ceremony. Generally held in early summer, the four-day dance ceremony involves sacrifice and supplication to ensure harmony between all living beings.

Some Indigenous Oklahoma tribes perform the July-August Green Corn Ceremony this month as a time of renewal. The ceremony involves participation in sweatlodge ceremonies, dances, offerings, and feasting.

Northern Cree, Ojibwa, and Algonkians tribes celebrate the last full moon of August with the August Native Wild Rice Harvest.

The August Hopi Snake Dance requires two weeks of ritual preparation. Snakes are gathered and watched over by children. The dancers take an emetic and dance with the snakes in their mouths, with an Antelope priest in attendance. After the dance, the snakes are released to carry their prayers.

August 8 – 17 is Fravardeghan for people of the Zoroastrian faith. It lasts for 10 days in preparation for Now Ruz for those who follow the Shenshai calendar. Ancestors are memorialized during this time.
