Congratulations to September 2023’s FHN PRIDE Champions! |

Stephanie Swalve (Respiratory Therapy) nominated by both Pamela Johnson and Carly Quaco.
Stephanie was nominated for being patient-centered, showing respect, dignity, and compassion, being innovative, delivering excellence, and being engaged. Pamela writes that Stephanie stepped into the role of an informal leader while the Respiratory Therapy leader had been out of the office, in addition to her normal routine of working at the Pulmonary Clinic, Pulmonary Rehab, and Pulmonary Function Lab. Pamela writes that she encountered issues that required intervention and juggling schedules, and Stephanie remained calm and professional throughout her leader’s leave of absence. Carly writes that Stephanie has devoted many hours to Pulmonary Rehab to ensure patients have the best experience FHN has to offer. She answers questions and reports back to physicians when needed to give each patient an individualized plan of care. Recently, she was able to help a patient get set up with a
pulmonologist and better understand his disease process. She has given many patients the ability to comfortably exercise in pulmonary
rehab so they may build up their strength and build relationships that last far beyond rehab.
Carly writes, “Patients look forward to days that Stephanie visits us in rehab and we are so thankful for her!”
Whitnee Jackson (Med/Surg) nominated by Kelly Stewart.
Whitnee was nominated for being patient-centered, showing respect, dignity, and compassion, being innovative, delivering excellence, and being engaged. Kelly writes that Whitnee always has a positive attitude while at work, even during busy shifts. This is her first job as a CNA, and she has been a huge asset to the FHN Nursing Team. Kelly writes that she is caring and compassionate toward her patients, and her patients love to talk with her. She is also a preceptor to new hires.
Kelly writes, “I am so excited to see what her future holds for her. Thank you for always being reliable, accountable, and most of all have the positive attitude you have even in the difficult shifts you work!”
Glenna Halley Hill (Central Business Office) nominated by Ashley Cochran.
Glenna was nominated for being patient-centered, showing respect, dignity, and compassion, being innovative, delivering excellence, and being engaged. Ashley writes of a time when she received a call from a patient who was losing his insurance coverage and wanted to know the cost associated with his appointments. She looked at his previous visits and gave him an estimate and discussed FHN’s Financial Assistance Program with him. The patient called back a couple of days later and left a voicemail for Ashley with questions regarding FHN’s Financial Assistance Program. Before calling the patient back, Ashley called Glenna, FHN’s Financial Assistance Coordinator, to get more information, as she was not familiar with the specifics of the program. Ashley writes that Glenna was very helpful and explained that the patient should use The Marketplace to get the best deal possible on a new insurance plan. She also made Ashley aware of a tax credit that the patient could get to lower his monthly payments and offered to assist the patient in the search of a Marketplace plan if he needed assistance. Ashley made the patient aware of all of the information Glenna shared with her, and was able to do so with confidence, due to the information Glenna provided her with.
Ashley writes, “The patient was satisfied and kept both of our extensions as future resources.”
Others nominated this month include: Rebecca Chenong, Amanda Paulsen, Ashley Seal, Abby Sadler, Amelia Klavenga, Isabelle Mercier, Amanda Shelffield, Lucy Roloff, Ayse Tanik, Brandi Sellers, Theresa Wilson, Holly Funk, Tori Clark, Shayna Vanderheyden, Alyssa Saxby, Maria Pasaporte, Bobette Roemer, Aaron Love, and Terri Hoertz.
Continue Delivering Excellence: Every Patient, Every Time! Take PRIDE in what you do at FHN! Please keep your eyes open for others demonstrating our PRIDE standards and nominate them for PRIDE Champion or our Golden Globe recognition program for leaders! Be sure to include details in your nomination to ensure their excellence is portrayed as you have witnessed it. Thank you! |

FHN’s popular Festival of Trees Gala event is back this year in an all-new format, and tickets are available now.
The Gala will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 at The Wagner House, 1 E. Spring Street in Freeport.
The evening will include a humorous magic show from Dewayne Hill, who has been featured on “America’s Got Talent” and Comedy

The United States celebrates National Indigenous Month in November. Since 1900, many have sought to recognize the great influence American Natives have had on the history, cultural development, and continuing growth of the country. Various dates and weeks were acknowledged until 1976, when Congress authorized a week in October as Native American Awareness Week. Finally, in 1990, the month of November was chosen because it is traditionally a time when many American Natives gather for fall harvest festivals, world-renewal ceremonies, and pow-wows.
The October-November Iroquois Harvest Ceremony is celebrated in November. It is a day-long ceremony to give thanks to earth spirits for providing now and in the future.
November 2 is All Souls Day, the Catholic Christians day of prayers for intercession for the dead. Prayers of the faithful are seen as helping to cleanse the souls of the departed.
In Portugal, November 2 is Dia de Finados. The holiday is celebrated by people visiting the deceased. They bring hearts and crowns made of flowers to the graves.
The people of Mexico celebrate Dia de los Muertos on November 2. Known as the Day of the Dead, it also is celebrated in parts of the United States and Central America. Families build altars in their homes surrounded with flowers, food, and burning candles.
Japan celebrates Bunka No Hi on November 3. It is a national holiday dedicated to the love of freedom and promotion of Japanese culture.
In the United Kingdom, November 5 is Guy Fawkes Day, also known as Bonfire Night. Guy Fawkes was a leader of a group of Catholic men who were plotting to blow up the king and Parliament but were arrested in time. The English and Irish burn bonfires topped by a figure known as “the guy.”
