FHN OB Team Recognized for Outstanding Commitment to Care |
|
The Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative (ILPQC) has recognized the FHN Women’s Health team at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport for the team’s outstanding efforts to provide equitable quality care to all mothers and babies.
“Of the 74 participating hospitals in Illinois, just 24 managed to meet all the rigorous criteria for this recognition so far. Also, FHN was one of just eight in the state to be recognized at the ILPQC Annual Conference for having a parent partner involved in their teams committee,” said FHN Women’s Health Service Line Director Linn Carter, MSN, APN/CNS-BC, NEA-BC. FHN’s team hosts quarterly community breakfasts for past patients as a way to receive feedback on what is going well and potential improvements to assure respectful care is given at all times.
“Congratulations to our Women’s Healthcare team for their unwavering commitment to improving the lives of women and infants throughout our community,” said FHN President and CEO Mark Gridley, MBA, FACHE. “We’re incredibly proud to have them as part of our healthcare family.”
To earn this recognition, the FHN Women’s Health team goes above and beyond for all of its patients by screening for social determinants of health (SDOH), economic and social conditions that affect individuals access to healthcare both prenatally and again when admitted to the hospital for delivery. They also screen for access of care for pregnant moms, collect valuable demographic data, and screen for available resources. They also prioritize staff and provider education to stay up-to-date with the latest healthcare practices.
The FHN OB team scored exceptionally high marks for respectful care upon discharge, showing the team’s dedication to providing the best possible experience for their patients throughout their healthcare journey.
The FHN OB team is one of the first women’s healthcare teams in the state to participate in the Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative (ILPQC) Equity and Safe Sleep of Infants (ESSI) Initiative. Being part of Wave 1 ensures FHN is a leader in expanding team members’ knowledge and community involvement in safe sleep for our families.

December is …
National Safe Toys and Gifts Month
Weeks to Note:
December 4 – 8 is National Handwashing Awareness Week
December 4 – 8 is National Influenza Vaccination Week
The United Nations observes Universal Human
Rights Month in December. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
(UDHR) was adopted by the UN in 1948 as a response to the Nazi holocaust
and to set a standard by which the human rights activities of all
nations, rich and poor alike, are to be measured. Some of the Rights
are: No one shall be subjected to cruel and inhuman punishment, being
entitled to a fair and public hearing by an impartial tribunal, the
right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and
effects, the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and
the right to a standard of living to include food, clothing, housing,
and medical care and necessary social services, the right to education,
the right to participate in the cultural life of the community, not
being arbitrarily deprived of their property, a speedy juried trial and
right to legal counsel.
The United States observes Pearl Harbor Day
today (December 7). The day commemorates the attack of the Imperial
Japanese Navy and Air Force on the armed forces of the US stationed at
Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, killing 2,000 people. This caused the United
States to enter World War II.
Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights,
begins today (December 7). It is celebrated for eight days. In
approximately 164 B.C., Maccabees, a small group of Jews fighting for
religious freedom, won victory over the Syrians. The legend goes that to
rededicate the Temple, they found just one jar of holy oil and
miraculously, the candelabra remained lit for eight days; that is why an
eight-candle menorah is lit.
Christians celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate
Conception on December 8. According to the Catholic religion, Mary,
mother of Jesus, was conceived without Original Sin in the womb of her
mother, St. Anne.
December 8 is Bodhi Day for Buddhists. In
Japanese Zen, Bohdi Day is called Rohatsu and is the observance
of the enlightenment of the historical Buddha. Zen monasteries observe
this day with a meditation retreat lasting several days. On the last
night of a Rohatsu session, monks and students often sit in meditation
until dawn, as the Buddha did 25 centuries ago.
The people of Mexico celebrate Our Lady of
Guadalupe, an important religious festival, on December 12. It
commemorates the appearance of the Blessed Virgin to an Indian boy in
1531. Processions, dances, and visits are taken to her Mexico City
shrine.
December 13 is Aga Khan’s Birthday. He is
the religious head of the Ismaili sect of Islam.
