Congratulations to February 2024's FHN PRIDE Champions! |
|
Kalli Wilson (Laboratory) nominated by Ruth Buisker. Kalli was nominated for being patient-centered, showing respect, dignity, and compassion, being innovative, delivering excellence, and being engaged. Ruth writes that Kalli helped her with using the foot scanner for the Podiatry
office. Ruth says she had been working on it for weeks, along with assistance from the IT Department and the scanner company due to it not functioning properly. One day while working, Kalli asked Ruth if she needed any assistance. Ruth explained how the scanner was not working properly and Kalli helped change the pixel settings and was able to get it working properly. Kalli was able to fix an issue in a short time that the company representative had not been able to solve for several months. Ruth writes, “Our whole department appreciates what she did and got it working!”
Kathy Ellis (Central Scheduling) nominated by Kelley Heinz. Kathy was nominated for being patient-centered, showing respect, dignity, and compassion, being innovative, delivering excellence, and being engaged. Kathy recently took a call from a patient who
wanted to book a COVID vaccination. She advised the patient that FHN does not offer that service, but
that she could reach out to her local pharmacy. The patient called back to say she was not able to get booked because appointments needed to be booked on the company website, and she does not have internet access. Kathy made some phone calls to the pharmacy in question and found there is a phone number that patrons can call if they do not have online access; however, the phone number was an automated number that can be confusing for people to use. Kathy demonstrated innovation by calling the patient and did a 3-way-call with the pharmacy phone number. Together, they were able to set up the patient’s appointment for a vaccination. Kelley writes, “Kathy demonstrated patient-centered care; she could have given the patient the information and let it go at that, but in demonstration of respect, dignity and compassion, she went the extra mile to be sure the patient was able to schedule the appointment.”
Yolanda Gray (Hospice) nominated by Mark Hunziker. Yolanda was nominated for being patient-centered, showing respect, dignity, and compassion, being innovative, delivering excellence, and being engaged.” Mark writes, “I am writing today to recognize one of the unsung heroes in the healthcare world, the CNA, and specifically Yolanda Gray.” He writes that CNAs are the eyes, ears, and feet of the healthcare team. Being a member of the hospice team can sometimes present unique challenges. In a patient’s home, the resources that are available in a facility are not present. Unfortunately, some patients do not have a comfortable living space. Mark says Yolanda is able to perform her job with compassion and efficiency using the resources available in a patient’s home to make a clean, comfortable space for the patient to live. Oftentimes, family members of patients in hospice can be anxious and scared of having to assist in caregiving. Mark writes that Yolanda is masterful at teaching how to be a caregiver. Mark writes, “Patients and families alike look forward to her visits and sing her praises. She performs her job in a way that eases the fear and anxiety of the patients, caregivers, and families.”
Others nominated this month include Felicia Evans, Capri Little, Ayse Tanik, Nicole Crowell, Autumn Seidemann, Shayna Vanderheyden, Billy Heinrich, Melissa Grindey, and the Sterile Processing Department
Continue Delivering Excellence: Every Patient, Every Time! Take PRIDE in what you do at FHN!

FHN Celebrating Providers Throughout March |
|
FHN is proud to celebrate our healthcare providers throughout March, the month of Doctors’ Day.
March 30 is National Doctors’ Day, a chance to acknowledge all that physicians do for their communities. On March 30, 1842, in Jefferson, Georgia, Dr. Crawford Long used ether to anesthetize a patient, James Venable, and painlessly excised a tumor from his neck.
All month, FHN is offering the chance to send a message to your healthcare provider – just visit www.fhn.org/doctorsday. Messages will be shared with providers and may be featured online (with personal information removed).

March is Women’s History Month in the United
States and the United Kingdom. It began as a single week and a local
event. In 1978 Sonoma County, California sponsored a women’s history
week to promote the teaching of women’s history. The week of March 8 was
selected to include International Women’s Day. The day is rooted in such
ideas and events as a woman’s right to vote and a woman’s right to work,
women’s strikes for bread, women’s strikes for peace at the end of World
War I, and the U.N. Charter declaration of gender equity at the end of
World War II. This day is an occasion to review haw far women have come
in their struggle for equality, peace, and development. In 1981,
Congress passed a resolution making the week a national celebration, and
in 1987 expanded it to the full month of March.
April is Multicultural Communications Month. Multicultural communications may seem difficult at first – differences in languages, backgrounds, customs, and the like all seem like a challenge. By learning more about our different cultures, it becomes easier to interact. This month has been dedicated to further this cause.
The United States celebrates Arab American Heritage Month in April. On March 31, 2023, the President of the United States declared April as Arab American Heritage Month to learn more about the history, culture, and achievements of Arab Americans and observe this month with appropriate programs and activities.
Christians celebrate Holy Thursday on March 28. On this day, Jesus ate the Last Supper and washed the feet of his disciples prior to his arrest and crucifixion.
March 29 is Good Friday for the Christian community. The day commemorates the passion and death by crucifixion of Jesus and is a solemn day. Italian Catholics have a procession called the Way of the Cross.
The Christian Easter holiday is March 31. The day celebrates the resurrection of Jesus from his grave. Christians celebrate the day with family meals and attending religious services, some as early as sunrise.

The people of Iran celebrate Farvardin on April 1. It is the 13th day after Now Ruz or New Year. The number 13 is considered an unlucky number for the Persians, and therefore everyone leaves home for the day to go on picnics or trips.
Christians observe Easter Monday on April 1. The day commemorates the meeting of the women at Jesus’ tomb with an angel who assured them that Jesus had been resurrected from death. It is observed as a holiday in some countries.
