FHN’s Healthy Heart Hustle 5K
7 a.m. registration
FHN Family Healthcare Center – Burchard Hills, 1010 W. Fairway Drive, Freeport
Socially distanced, rolling start 5K run begins at 8 a.m. The Victory Lap will be held immediately following the 5K start. Proceeds from the race will benefit heart patients in northwest Illinois through the FHN Cardiology Department. Advance online registration is $25/adults and $10/ages 17 and under Race Day Registration is $35/adults. A virtual 5K option also is available. For more details or to sign up, visit fhn.org/5k.

Living Through Grief
6 p.m.
FHN Memorial Hospital Deaconess Room, 1045 W. Stephenson Street, Freeport
This group helps participants learn more about the grief process, share stories of loss, and regain hope for healing. For more information, contact FHN Hospice 815-599-7240.
Sports Physical Clinic - Freeport
5-7 pm
FHN Family Healthcare Center – Burchard Hills, 1010 W. Fairway Drive, Freeport
No appointment necessary; students are asked to come during the time scheduled for their sport . Forms must be printed, completed, and signed prior to arriving for physical. $25 fee (cash or check only) will be donated back to the school. These exams meet Illinois eligibility requirements for all sports and are good through the 2024-25 school year. These exams also meet Wisconsin eligibility requirements.
July 23
Prenatal Class (Session 2)
5 - 8 p.m.
The FHN/Stephenson County Health Department series of 3 prenatal classes is offered to all regardless of their number of weeks gestation, however, they do correlate a bit with how a pregnancy progresses. Mothers-to-be and spouses/support persons are encouraged to attend these free sessions together. Session 2 focuses on labor and delivery, breastfeeding and a tour of the FHN Family Birthing Center at FHN Memorial Hospital. July 24
Caregiver Support Group
2 - 3:30 p.m.
Virtual Meeting
Free group for those who provide care to a family member, friend, or member of the community. Open-forum discussion and a chance to ask questions and share resources. Visit fhn.org/caregivers for the secure Zoom link or contact Sean Huguenin at 815-599-6160 for more information.

Bring your baby and join other moms to share knowledge and talk about the most up-to-date breastfeeding information. Discussions will be led by lactation experts from the FHN/SCHD Breastfeeding Task Force. This group is open to all moms and free to attend; visit fhn.org/breastfeedingtaskforce for more information.

Meet the group by the concession stand for this safe, fun, and FREE way to spend 30-45 minutes as you get some steps, learn about health, and meet new friends. Housekeeping Lead Martiny McClellan and her family lost everything in a house fire on Thursday, July 11.
Her son, daughter, and granddaughter lived with her, and whatever was not burned has succumbed to smoke and water damage.
Please find it in your hearts to help this beautiful person and her family in their time of need.
Monetary donations accepted along with any other items including clothing: Women’s 8/10 and 6, Boy’s 10/12, and newborn baby girl.

FHN is again proud to offer multiple scholarships for students in the FHN service area who are pursuing careers in healthcare.
Several scholarships are currently being offered, each with different application criteria and financial amounts.
• Healthcare Career Scholarship Program for up to three $1,000 scholarships
• Diversity Healthcare Career Scholarship Program for up to one $1000 scholarship
• Volunteer Services Scholarship Program for an active member of the FHN Student Volunteer Program with a minimum of 40 volunteer hours

FHN Employee Discounts |
Vizient Employee Discounts
To register for a free account with Abenity, enter “FHN” in the organization name field, and you’ll be directed to the Abenity dashboard. Navigate to the employee discount/perk that you’re looking for using the website’s menu system or search bar. You can also download the free, convenient Abenity app via the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Then follow the steps provided to access the discount.
• At the bottom of the main Abenity dashboard page, there are ways to look up categories of products, how-to videos, etc.
Clicking on “New” or “Popular” will give you the list of products that people often ask about (rental cars, electronics, etc.)
• Abenity has discounts for zoos, amusement parks, museums, etc. in IL and elsewhere
• Neither Vizient nor FHN can guarantee that these employee discounts are the best deals available. You may be able to shop around for better deals via Groupon or other programs.

Verizon Wireless
• Existing Verizon customers should look for the heading: “Already have a Verizon Wireless account?” and click the small arrow ( > ) underneath.
Sign into your Verizon mobile account and follow the steps provided. For assistance, call the Verizon wireless employee validation center at 800-890-8007.
• New Verizon customers should go to a Verizon store to create an account and choose a plan or call the new account hotline at 800-922-0204.
AT&T Wireless
• Existing AT&T customers should log into their account and follow the steps provided. For assistance, call the AT&T wireless business division at 800-331-0500.
• New AT&T customers should go to an AT&T store to create an account and choose a plan (or call the new account hotline at 866-945-8251.) (NOTE: There is an option to print a coupon to bring to an AT&T store, but this will not work in Illinois, Wisconsin, or Iowa)

US Cellular
FHN employees are eligible for a Partner Employee Discount (PED) through US Cellular. (This offer is not through Vizient or Abenity).
The discount is up to 15% off on qualified plans. See a US Cellular associate for more details. If requested, please provide the US Cellular representative with this PED code: PED4551. You will also be asked to verify your employment with FHN, which you can do by showing a paycheck stub or an employee name badge, and show a valid driver’s license or state ID.

The July – August Sun Dance Ritual takes place at this time. For many tribes of the Plains Indians, the Sun Dance was a major communal religious ceremony. Generally held in early summer, the four-day dance ceremony involves sacrifice and supplication to ensure harmony between all living beings.
This is also the time of the July – August Green Corn Ceremony, performed by some Oklahoma tribes as a time of renewal. The ceremony involves participation in sweat lodge ceremonies, dances, offerings, and fasting.
Imamat Day is celebrated July 11 every year by Ismailis on the day that the Imamat or religious leader transferred from the past Imam to the present Aga Khan.
The people of Puerto Rico celebrate Munoz-Rivera Day on July 20. The day celebrates the anniversary of the birth of Luis Munoz-Rivera, a Puerto Rican patriot, poet, and journalist.
July 21 is Guru Purnima for people of the Jain and Hindu faiths. It is celebrated to revere and honor their Gurus (spiritual masters).
Buddhists celebrate Buddha’s first teaching with Wassana / Dhamma Day on July 21. The day marks the beginning of the three-month Rains Retreat for self-examination and peace-making for monks and nuns.
July 24 is Pioneer Day for Mormons. The day honors the U.S. pioneers led by Brigham Young, who first settled in Utah in 1847. The day is celebrated with parades to remember their pioneering ancestors.
Venezuela and Ecuador celebrate Simon Bolivar Day on July 24. Simon Bolivar (1783-1830) was one of South America’s greatest generals. His victories over the Spaniards won independence for Bolivia, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. He is called El Liberator and “the George Washington of South America.”
