The Living Through Grief Support Group offers a confidential place for those grieving a loss within the last 2 years to talk about your thoughts and feelings. We utilize videos, books, speakers, and discussions to help participants learn about the grief process, share stories of loss, and regain hope. There is a maximum capacity of 15 attendees. Prenatal Class(Session 3)
5 - 8 p.m.
The FHN/Stephenson County Health Department series of 3 prenatal classes is offered to all regardless of their number of weeks gestation, however, they do correlate a bit with how a pregnancy progresses. Mothers-to-be and spouses/support persons are encouraged to attend these free sessions together. Session 3 focuses on newborn and postpartum care, car seats, STDs, birth control, and community resources. November is … Weeks to Note: Days to Note: November is National Indigenous Month in the United States. Since 1900, many have sought to recognize the great influence American Natives have had on the history, cultural development, and continuing growth of the U.S. Various dates and weeks were acknowledged until 1976, when Congress authorized a week in October as Native American Awareness Week. Finally, in 1990, the month of November was chosen because it is traditionally a time when many American Natives gather for fall harvest festivals, world-renewal ceremonies, and pow wows. Indigenous people in North America celebrate the October – November Iroquois Harvest Ceremony, a day-long ceremony to give thanks to earth spirits for providing now and in the future. The people of Japan celebrate Kinro Kansha No Hi on November 23. It is the Japanese Labor Thanksgiving Day, when people express gratitude to each other for their labors throughout the year. November 24 is the celebration of the Martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur for people of the Sikh faith. Guru Teg Bahadur (1621 – 1675) was the ninth of the Ten Sikh Gurus and executed in Delhi by the Mughal emperor. He died for the Sikh faith and also for religious liberty. The people of Canada and France celebrate St. Catherine’s Day on November 25. She is the patron saint of virgins and philosophers, lived in Alexandria in the 4th century AD, and was martyred after being tortured on a spiked wheel. At one time, match-making balls were held on this day. November 26 is the Day of Covenant for people of the Baha’i’ faith. The eldest son and appointed successor of Baha’u’llah, Abdu’l-Baha, referred to this day as the Centre of the Covenant, which was established to safeguard the unity of the community. |
