FHN Offering Two $134 Heart Month Specials

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, and early diagnosis is key in fighting the disease. FHN is celebrating American Heart Month in February with special cash pricing on two heart health tests.

Call 815-599-6860 by Friday, Feb. 28 to schedule a Standard Walking Treadmill Stress Test or Calcium Scoring CT Heart Scan and pay just $134 for the test.

For more information about the screenings, visit www.fhn.org/HeartMonthSpecials.asp or call 815-599-6860 to schedule an appointment. Tests must be scheduled by Friday, Feb. 28 and performed by Friday, May 30, 2025 to qualify for the special rate.

These tests do not replace consultations with your healthcare provider, and are not appropriate for persons with a history of heart trouble. If you do not have a primary healthcare provider, FHN will work with you to determine how to handle your test results when they are communicated to you. Payment for the tests is due (cash, checks and credit cards accepted) at the time of service.

February is Black History Month in the United States. The study of black history is greatly owed to Dr. Carter G. Woodson, who first launched “Negro History Week” in 1926. Woodson chose February because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly impacted the American black population. Abraham Lincoln (president of the United States who freed slaves during the Civil War), and Frederick Douglass (who worked to end slavery) have birthdays in February. The purpose of this month is to recognize the contributions of Black Americans and develop a better understanding of the Black experience.

February also is Black History Month in Canada. In December of 1995, the Parliament of Canada recognized February as Black History Month following a motion introduced by the first African Canadian woman elected to Parliament, Jean Augustine. The presence of peoples of African descent in Canada dates back farther than Samuel de Champlain's (a French explorer and navigator in early 1600's) first voyage down the St. Lawrence River.

Buffalo dances are performed in Hopi reserves during the Hopi Holy Cycle in February.

The people of New Zealand celebrate Waitangi Day on February 6. This day commemorates the signing of a treaty at Waitangi on February 6, 1840 by a group of Maori chiefs and the British government. It honors the rights of the British Crown and also the rights of the Maori people, who are now in the process of being reclaimed.

February 7 is Mulk, the first day of the eighteenth Bahá'í month. The English translation of Mulk (Arabic) is Dominion.

Boy Scout Day is celebrated February 8 in Canada and the United States. William Boyce, a Chicago publisher, founded the Boy Scouts of America on Feb 10, 1910. The purpose was to promote, through organization, and cooperation with other agencies, the ability of boys to do things for themselves and others, to train them in Scoutcraft, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self-reliance and kindred virtues, using the methods which are in common use by Boy Scouts.

February 10 is the beginning of Kindness Awareness Week. Established in 1995, the movement inspires people to share kindness with one another as they discover for themselves what power it has to effect positive change as healthy relationships are created and community connections are nourished.

Japan celebrates National Foundation Day on February 11. The day commemorates the accession to the throne of the Emperor Jimmu Tenno in 660 BCE and the founding of the nation.

In India and Mauritius, February 11 is Thaipoosam Cavadee. Celebrated by Hindus of Tamil origin in honor of Kartikeya, Granter of Wishes, and the second son of Shiva. Devotees with their tongues, cheeks and body pierced with needles, hooks and skewers, dance their way trance-like to the temple carrying the 'Cavadee' - a wooden arch covered with flowers with a pot of milk at each end of its base.

February 12 is Lincoln’s Birthday. President Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was born February 12, 1809 and assassinated on Good Friday, April 14, 1865.
