FHN Offering Two $134 Heart Month Specials |
|
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, and early diagnosis is key in fighting the disease. FHN is celebrating American Heart Month in February with special cash pricing on two heart health tests.
Call 815-599-6860 by Friday, Feb. 28 to schedule a Standard Walking Treadmill Stress Test or Calcium Scoring CT Heart Scan and pay just $134 for the test.
For more information about the screenings, visit www.fhn.org/HeartMonthSpecials.asp or call 815-599-6860 to schedule an appointment. Tests must be scheduled by Friday, Feb. 28 and performed by Friday, May 30, 2025 to qualify for the special rate.
These tests do not replace consultations with your healthcare provider, and are not appropriate for persons with a history of heart trouble. If you do not have a primary healthcare provider, FHN will work with you to determine how to handle your test results when they are communicated to you. Payment for the tests is due (cash, checks and credit cards accepted) at the time of service.

Recognize Phishing E-mails |
|
Scammers use e-mail to try to steal your passwords, account numbers, or Social Security numbers. If they get that information, they could get access to your e-mail, bank, or other accounts. Or they could sell your information to other scammers. Scammers often update their tactics to keep up with the latest news or trends.
Phishing emails try to trick you into clicking on a link or opening an attachment. You might get an unexpected e-mail that looks like it’s from a company you know or trust, like a bank, credit card, utility company, or from an online payment website or app. The message could:
say they’ve noticed suspicious activity or log-in attempts —
they haven’t
claim there’s a problem with your account or your payment information —
there isn’t
say you need to confirm some personal or financial information —
you don’t
include an invoice you don’t recognize —
it’s fake
say you’re eligible to register for a government refund —
it’s a scam
offer a coupon for free stuff — it’s not real
At first glance, this e-mail may look real, but it’s not. Here are signs that this e-mail is a scam, even though it looks like it comes from a company you know — and even uses the company’s logo in the header:
The e-mail has a generic greeting.
The e-mail says your account is on hold because of a billing problem.
The e-mail invites you to click on a link to update your payment details.
While real companies might communicate with you by email, legitimate companies won’t e-mail or text with a link to update your payment information.
Remember to report suspicious emails. |

National Children’s Dental Health Month
Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
Weeks to Note:
February 7 – 14 is Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week

Days to Note:
February 14 is National Donor Day
The Iroquois Midwinter Ceremony held each
January and February, lasts for eight days and each day is dedicated to
an event such as tobacco invocation. The days vary according to
community.
January is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender
History Month in the United Kingdom. It was initiated by Schools OUT
in Britain in February 2005. This is an opportunity for all to learn
more about the lives and achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender people in Britain and Northern Ireland.
February is Black History Month in the
United States. The study of black history is greatly owed to Dr. Carter
G. Woodson, who first launched “Negro History Week” in 1926. Woodson
chose February because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly
impacted the American black population. Abraham Lincoln (president of
the United States who freed slaves during the Civil War), and Frederick
Douglass (who worked to end slavery) have birthdays in February. The
purpose of this month is to recognize the contributions of Black
Americans and develop a better understanding of the Black experience.
February also is Black History Month in
Canada. In December of 1995, the Parliament of Canada recognized
February as Black History Month following a motion introduced by the
first African Canadian woman elected to Parliament, Jean Augustine. The
presence of peoples of African descent in Canada dates back farther than
Samuel de Champlain's (a French explorer and navigator in early 1600s)
first voyage down the St. Lawrence River.
Buffalo dances are performed in Hopi reserves
during the Hopi Holy Cycle in February.
Today (February 13) is Tu B’Shevat (Arbor Day)
for people of the Jewish faith. The day celebrates Judaism's roots in
the natural world. It is a holiday and known as the New Year for Trees.
Special meals include eating the seven fruits of the land - wheat,
barley, figs, grapes, pomegranates, olives and dates. Trees are also
planted.
The United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom
celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14. One version of the
story states that a priest named Valentine was martyred on February 14,
269 A.D. in Rome for secretly marrying couples against the orders of the
Roman Emperor, Claudius II. This was the night before a festival called
Lupercalia associated with fertility. Probably both customs
became associated with this day
The people of Canada celebrate National Flag Day
on February 15. Twenty-year-old Joan O'Malley sewed Canada's first flag
in 1964. The flag was raised for the first time on Parliament Hill in
Ottawa at the stroke of noon on February 15, 1965.
In Serbia, February 15 is National Day,
commemorating the day in 1804 when the first uprising against the
Ottoman Turks began. Independence was gained in 1829, and the
constitution signed in 1835.
February 16 is Independence Day in
Lithuania. The holiday commemorates the 1918 declaration of independence
from Russia. In 1990, the country again declared independence from the
Soviet Union.
Americans celebrate Presidents’ Day on
February 17 this year. It is a US Federal holiday that celebrates the
birthdays of Abraham Lincoln, born February 12, 1809, and George
Washington, born February 22, 1732.
Aboriginal and native Canadians celebrate Louis
Riel Day on February 17. He was the famous Metis leader who in 1885
led a rebellion and lost against the Canadian authorities because he
feared more Metis land would be taken away by the settlers. Today his
name is a symbol for Native independence.
The people of Gambia celebrate the nation’s
Independence Day on February 18. The day celebrates the anniversary
of independence from Britain in 1965. A public vote in 1970 made the
country a republic within the Commonwealth.
